Did they use the correct “B” for the Dodgers cap? It doesn’t look so from the movie poster. The thing that bothered me from the previews is that they messed up the font for the Dodgers uniforms. The Dodgers used standard MLB block, but the uniforms had a different font (and I believe no front numbers). Were there any other errors? 0 Share this post Share on other sites Posted April 16, 2013 Gothamite phutmasterflex Posted April 18, 2013 1,292 Forums Home 1 TheOldRoman 4,324 Posted April 16, 2013 Early 1950s, I think. I do like the Brooklyn logo in the film, although the patch is anachronistic. At the risk of a little self-promotion, I wrote these two articles on the Dodgers’ cap history last year:http://www.uni-watch.com/2011/05/01/hats-off-to-brooklyn-part-i/http://www.uni-watch.com/2011/05/07/hats-off-to-brooklyn-part-ii/Personally, this has long been my favorite of their logos, and would have also been accurate for the period. Much better than the modern (and incorrect) caps pictured on the posters. That’s a tweaked Red Sox logo, not the Dodgers. Were there any other errors? The cap logo was executed wrong, even thought the artwork was pretty close (not the same cap in the movie as on the poster). The numbering was off, but the Dodgers did not wear front numbers in that era, so that part was correct. I would expect the minor league stuff to be spot on, as it was done by Ebbetts Field Flannels. Read these two articles on the two companies that made the uniforms for the moviehttp://espn.go.com/blog/playbook/fandom/post/_/id/20823/hollywood-meets-reality-in-42-mlb-unishttp://espn.go.com/blog/playbook/fandom/post/_/id/20744/how-42-nailed-authentic-vintage-uniformsDue to some Hollywood limitations, some minor changes had to be made. Overall, I think the movie looked great. I didn’t go in to nitpick during the film, but overall, it looked pretty authentic to me despite some differences. I remember several images of Robinson with front numbers, so I assumed he had them his whole career. Is it possible the Dodgers did not yet use MLB block in 1947, and that the font in the movie is correct? I can’t find images online. Looked like they fit the era and i’m not much of a baseball fan, but when did batting helmets start getting used? thought it was weird how they had regular hats on when they went up to bat Posted April 15, 2013 1,005 Posted April 16, 2013 0 677 Sports Logos Members Share on other sites 4,324last_img
