Donegal Shines a Light on Lung Cancer this weekend

first_imgAnne-Marie Baird, a Donegal scientist and patient advocate based in Dublin, is holding the 3rd Donegal Shines a Light on Lung Cancer event in Glenveagh National Park on Saturday November 24th.Over the past two years this event has increased the profile of lung cancer in Donegal, while also raising over 6,000 euro for lung cancer research at St. James’s hospital. The continued aim of this event is to help increase awareness around lung cancer and to fight the stigma associated with this disease. Each year in Ireland, over 2,500 people are diagnosed with the disease and it accounts for more than 1,800 deaths, which is more than breast and prostate cancer combined. The outline of the event is as follows: the visitor’s centre will open at 5.30pm, with informal awareness talks at 6pm in the AV room. A walk will follow to the castle, with ‘shine a light’ taking place at the front of the castle.Refreshments will be served afterwards in the Kilmacrennan hall (opposite the thatched cottages).Shine a Light on Lung Cancer is an initiative from Lung Cancer Alliance in Washington DC and this is the third time that the event will be held in Ireland. Money raised on the night will support the Marie Keating Foundation’s Listen To Your Lungs campaign. More information can be found on the event’s Facebook www.facebook.com/donegalsal and Eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/donegal-shines-a-light-on-lung-cancer-tickets-52193278501 pages. This event has been made possible through the support of Glenveagh National Park, The Irish Red Cross, Lung Cancer Alliance, the Marie Keating Foundation.Donegal Shines a Light on Lung Cancer this weekend was last modified: November 18th, 2018 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:anne-marie bairddonegalglenveagh national parklung cancerlast_img
